MARGAO: Intervention of the district authorities on Friday help diffuse the situation at the T B Cunha School in Aquem as District Collector Venancio Furtado ordered the parties to maintain status quo and directed his deputy collector to lock the school’s main gate on Friday evening after a meeting with the two rival parties.
The Collector held two rounds of meetings with the management of the school led by president Narayan Desai and the St Sebastian Church Fabrica represented by the parish priest.
After the meeting, Furtado told the media that the Fabrica has agreed to remove the lock put on the main gate of the school. “It was agreed that the authorities will put its own lock on the main gate after the Fabrica unlocks the gate, while the school management has been allowed to put a lock on the school library and laboratory,” Furtado told the media.
He said his Deputy has already put a lock on the school main gate this evening, adding that the police have now been instructed to maintain vigil.
Furtado further said he would personally inspect the school premises along with PWD officials to ascertain the repairs carried out by the school management. “The school management was directed by my predecessor last year to repair the school building by moving the students. The management approached my office for permission to hold the classes in the school building on the plea that the building was safe for occupation.” Furtado said.
The school witnessed a commotion on Thursday after the Fabrica took up the repair work of the school building, evoking strong objection from the school management.
“We have diffused the situation. Both the parties were made to see reason. Only after my inspection of the school building, I will give a report on the factual situation,” he said.
