Margao: Clean Margao Green Margao (CMGM) has filed a complaint against the organising committee of the Margao Carnival for damaging the plants at the Ravindra Bhavan road divider during the float parade

Margao: Clean Margao Green Margao (CMGM) has filed a complaint against the organising committee of the Margao Carnival for damaging the plants at the Ravindra Bhavan road divider during the float parade.
CMGM has submitted a complaint to the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) chief officer, the carnival committee and the South Goa Superintendent of Police. The NGO has claimed that the loss suffered is close to Rs 5.5 lakh.
CMGM has expressed sadness at the condition of the plants and has requested the authorities to clear the plastic and other waste lying on this road before 5.30 pm on February 9.
“It is due to mismanagement by the carnival committee. I received many phone calls regarding this issue and when I went to the site, it was really shocking to see the area, which was looking lush green till 1 pm on Feb 7, was destroyed within four hours by the carnival parade, making entire area non-picturesque,” said Rajendra Talak of CMGM.
He continued, “The barricade and ficus plants were uprooted at various places, and golden duranta, which was covering the entire base area, was totally damaged, resulting in a loss of around Rs 5.5 lakh. The carnival organizers were busy with unnecessary issues and wore t-shirts of ‘Chipko-Madd’ but could not protect this beautiful road divider sending a very good message of ‘Clean Margao, Green Margao’. This clearly shows the true colour of this organizing committee and the people behind this.”
Talak added, “The entire area of Ravindra Bhavan road is littered with plastic and paper. The organizers should have taken measures to clear the same after the programme, which they failed to do. If they fail to clean up the area in the stipulated time, our team will start cleaning it.”
