PANJIM: The five-member Commission constituted by the government to hold the Comunidades convention last month, submitted its report to Revenue Minister Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate’ on Friday.
In its 58 pages report, the Commission has recommended commemoration of “Comunidades Day” on April 15 every year, with functions organised in the respective zonal administration offices. The first such “Comunidades Day” may be celebrated on April 15 this year, it stated.
It has recommended constitution of a five-member Committee preferably from amongst components of Comunidades present at the Convention, to follow up
with the State government on the implementation of the resolutions and recommendations passed at the Convention held on January 14 this year and matters connected therewith.
The experience has been that none of the recommendations made at past Conventions were acted upon on account of lack of focused follow-up, it stated.
The Commission has further recommended correction of errors in the official English translation of Code of Comunidades notified by the government.
During the Convention, as many as 12 resolution were passed, including the one urging the government to empower Comunidade attorneys to act on illegal constructions, issue stop-work orders and seek assistance of the police.
