“One cause of irregular water supply is damaged pipelines which break very often. But, the main cause is that water is diverted to hotels and projects. Water is supplied only to particular areas,” Bhike alleged.

Bhike claimed that water mafia and increasing water tanker business are also the causes of water problem in Mapusa.

He accused the municipality, TCP and PDA of granting permissions to mega projects without taking the infrastructure needs into consideration such as water and electricity.

“Star hotels/resorts have 24×7 water supply but common people are suffering due to water shortage,” Bhike complained.

”All the three chairpersons, who have served for the last five years, should come forward for open debate and show the people the quality of development they have carried out. This doesn’t include the beautification works of laying pavers and others,” he added.
