Container Operations Resume at Mormugao Port as SCI Mumbai Docks; Six-Month Fee Waiver to Boost Trade

Container operations have officially resumed at the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) with the arrival of SCI Mumbai, a vessel operated by the Shipping Corporation of India (SCI), marking a major step in reviving long-pending services at the port.

According to sources within the MPA, the restart of container movement is expected to significantly benefit Goa’s industries—particularly the pharmaceutical sector, which relies heavily on efficient cargo handling. The renewed operations are also anticipated to generate employment opportunities for Goan youth.

Delta Ports Mormugao Terminal Pvt. Ltd. chairman Mohiuddin Ahmed stated that vessel-related charges have been waived for the first six months to encourage trade and restore confidence among shipping lines and feeder operators. This incentive is designed not only to support pharma exporters but also to attract businesses from non-pharma sectors across Goa.

Officials believe the revival of container services will enhance the port’s competitiveness and help restore its position as a key logistics hub on the western coast.
