The former chief minister and Margao MLA shared a close friendship with Correa and his family and Kamat said he would always be grateful to Correa for helping Goa.
It was on Kamat’s personal plea that Correa agreed to join the Regional Plan team. “He had a lot of love for Goa and it was this love that encouraged him to work on the Regional Plan 2021 without accepting any honorarium,” Kamat said.
“He was also a member of Goa’s Golden Jubilee Development Council that prepared a vision document for Goa,” Kamat added.
Kamat recalled how the world renowned architect was bestowed with Goa’s highest civilian honour, the Gomant Vibhushan, on the eve of the Golden Jubiliee of Goa’s Liberation.
Heartfelt accolades to Correa had flowed from Kamat, on the day Correa received the honor at the hands of then Governor K Shankaranarayanan.
“He has received greater awards. But I hope this award really touches the heart of Charles Correa as it is given to him by people of the state to which he belongs. I hope you will always cherish sweet memories of Goa,” was what Kamat said at the award function.
“Charles was an eminent son of Goa who by his architectural designs across the world made Goa and Goans proud,” said Kamat.
“He was a genius behind several landmark structures world over and design concepts,” said Kamat.
. Apart of from these numerous good buildings designed by him, he contributed a lot for the development of the State,” said Kamat.
