VASCO: Cortalim Panchayat has opposed the proposal of the two short distance diversions too. The panchayat is angered over the decisions of Government taken without taking the panchayats in confidence.
Panchayat members are aggrieved that neither the local body nor the farmers have been taken into confidence. “No drawings, no plans have been given to the affected panchayats” said Sarpanch Angela Furtado.
“The planning of a project should show the traffic diversions and service roads to and fro. It should be there in the document of tender and we have asked for RTI” said Deputy Sarpanch Raymond D’sa.
Hr further said “The road has a bad record of accidents and now the entire traffic is being diverted on to that road which has schools on the way too.”
Anita Kenkre a Panch said “Our transport Minister has said that there are lakhs of vehicles on this road and now they plan to divert this traffic through this road which is too narrow for the size of traffic. Wonder how much trouble it will cause to the locals.”
“There needs to be a comprehensive solution to the diversion and traffic plan or else the people will come on to the streets and stop the entire traffic from North and South Goa” said a panch.
