Cottarli, Sanguem locals want action against overloaded trucks

Residents of Cottarli and Orcotto, Sanguem, have demanded immediate and necessary action over large movement of overloaded trucks carrying ore from a factory at Xelpem since the past few days.
The residents submitted a memorandum to Quepem Deputy Collector Agnelo Fernandes, Sanguem Police Inspector and Road Transport Officer, Quepem, for necessary action.
The memorandum highlighted the health hazards caused to the locals residing in the vicinity due to overloaded trucks.
The memorandum further stated that due to the overloaded trucks, ore spills all over the road, thereby causing dust pollution leading to adverse effects on the health of the villagers residing by the side of the road.
“Despite the villagers having written to the authorities to keep a check and control over the movement of overloaded trucks plying from the factory, particularly those carrying fly ash, the authorities have failed to act diligently in the matter,” states the memorandum.
The villagers have also complained to the authorities of the trucks moving in the village much before the prescribed timings of 8 am and after 6 pm, thereby disturbing peace in the village.
“Due to the movement of trucks during night, our sleep is greatly disturbed,” complained a villager.
In the meantime, Cottarli villagers also submitted a request to the Uguem sarpanch for the installation of ‘No Entry’ signboards in the village for heavy trucks before 8 am and after 6 pm.
The villagers have also urged the sarpanch to pass a resolution to that effect at the panchayat meeting for onward submission to the Deputy Collector for getting necessary orders.
A similar request has also been made to the Sanguem Municipal Council chairperson for the installation of ‘No Entry’ signboard towards the Dando end of Orcotto village.
