VALPOI: More than hundreds of acres of agricultural land went dry after the water canal at Ravan Sattari developed big cracks. The canal was supplying water from Anjunem Dam to agriculture land in the vicinity of Keri, Parye Panchayat jurisdiction.
Immediate repair work is being carried out by the water resources department, but authorities revealed that it would take over eight days to complete the work. Agriculturist Mahadev Gawas said that over hundreds of acres of agricultural land have been badly affected due to the absence of water. And even though canal repair work has been undertaken on a priority basis, Gawas blamed the WRD authorities for neglecting demands to repair the same.
“Every year, before releasing water, farmers have been demanding that the WRD authorities repair this canal, but our demands have fallen on deaf ears,” Gawas said.
Another farmer, Govind Gawas from Shiroli said that during the monsoon “the cement plaster of the canal is washed away. Hence plastering work needs to be carried out after every monsoon.”
Assistant Engineer of WRD, Pawadi said repair works have been undertaken in full swing and should be completed soon.
