Cuncloim celebrates Umbrella Festival

MARGAO, MARCH 15 The traditional Sotreo (Umbrella) Festival was celebrated with great pomp and religious fervour at Cuncolim on Sunday.

The traditional Sotreo (Umbrella) Festival was celebrated with great pomp and religious fervour at Cuncolim on Sunday.
Thousands of devotees, irrespective of caste and creed, thronged the town on Sunday after to seek blessings of Shree Shantadurga Kuncolikarim.
People from all walks of life lined up the entire route from Fatorpa to Cuncolim to welcome the Palanquin carrying the deity to her native place. The entire route was tastefully decorated with welcome arcs at many places along the route.
As is the tradition, the idol of Shree Shantadurga Kuncolikarim was brought from Fatorpa under a procession of twelve umbrellas.
The silver palanquin carrying the diety started from Fatorpa after a religious ceremony by the 12 Vangodds.
Women in large numbers assembled at Buinsa, Tolleabhat and other place to worship the diety as the procession wound its way from Fatorpa to Mollanguinim, Gotton, Buinsa, Tolleabhat before returning back to Fatorpa.
The police made elaborate security arrangements at Buinsa and Tolleabhat as a precautionary measure.
