PONDA: Following the brazen theft of new aluminium conductors worth Rs 2.4 lakh, which were stored at the Curti Electricity Sub Station premises, residents of Ponda have called on the police to step up night patrolling in the town and panchayat areas.
The officials from the Electricity Department have filed a complaint at Ponda Police Station, reporting that three drums of new aluminium conductors were stolen from the open premises of the department. Additionally, various old and scrap materials are dumped at the site.

The theft has surprised the department staff, as it would require a vehicle for transportation of the drums, raising questions about how it went unnoticed by security and CCTV cameras.
Meanwhile, two other thefts have left locals shaken. The first was reported in Varkhandem, Ponda, where a flat was burgled by breaking open the main front door. Gold and valuables were stolen while the owner, Premanand Naik, was out of station. His neighbour noticed the open door and informed him, prompting him to return home and file a police complaint.
Earlier on July 8, a theft was reported in a flat at Prabhunagar-Curti, where goods worth Rs 1.15 lakh were stolen by breaking open the back door.
