MARGAO: With just four days to go for the completion deadline to expire, work on the new district Collectorate building is going on a fast pace, even as the decision to shift the present Collectorate to the new building will be taken on Tuesday after a review by the Principal Revenue Secretary.
District Collector said the government will take a final call on the shifting of the South Goa district Collectorate to the new building on Tuesday. “Principal Revenue Secretary will review work on the Collectorate building on Tuesday and take a call on the shifting,” Agrawal said.
A visit to the new Collectorate building revealed fast pace of work executed by the contractor, ostensibly to meet Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s January 25 deadline for the shifting.
A group of labourers were busy engaged in completing the work on the stage and the parade grounds in time for the Republic Day celebrations on January 26. Workers were also engaged in planting saplings all around the Collectorate complex, while final touches were given for the painting work on the main building.
That the authorities are bracing up to shift the Collectorate to the new building became evident as work on illumination of the imposing building coinciding with the Republic Day celebrations was underway inside the complex.
Incidentally, the staff and employees of the Collectorate building were also bracing up for the shifting. Almost on all the floors, one could find file bundles ready for shifting to the new building. Sources in the know said only the files and computers will be shifted to the new building, while the old furniture will be left back at the existing Collectorate building.
