PANJIM: In what could leave the Goa Police embarrassed, day-one of the Sagar Kavach coastal security exercise exposed a major security lapse when the decoy terrorists reportedly managed to plant a fake bomb in the police headquarters and the Porvorim police premises.
Sources told Herald that the two-day exercise that commenced early Wednesday morning had targeted 11 locations which included the two police premises.
“The decoy terrorists entered the police buildings and planted the fake bombs. It was only thereafter that the teams were informed about it. This clearly shows the police buildings are themselves not safeguarded properly,” one of the team members said.
The exercise will continue on Thursday.
even as police personnel conducted patrolling and nakabandis across various places on Wednesday.
No officer was available for comments on the progress of the exercise.
The security exercise assesses the progress of the coastal security mechanism and provides seamless seaward cover along the Goa coast from the coastal belt area line to the limit of the territorial waters.
This time services of Drishti lifeguards on the beaches were also be roped in.
