The delegation, led by locals Jerry D’Souza and Chillaya Sawant, submitted the memorandum to the chief minister consisting of about 600 signatures from Divadkars.
It may be recalled that recently the locals had started a signature campaign in Divar to submit it to the chief minister insisting that the bridge is the need of the hour so that the people are not put to undue hardship as and when the ferry services break down.
Speaking to the media after submitting the memorandum to Parrikar, Jerry D’Souza said they apprised the chief minister on the problems faced by the people, particularly students, whenever there is any delay or breakdown in ferry services.
“We also informed the CM that only the rich people from Divar, who are mostly not residing there, have spread false notion that the locals are opposing a bridge for the island,” D’Souza said, while stating that Parrikar showed empathy to the sufferings the Divadkars are going through and assured that he would look into the issue.
