MARGAO: The south Goa collector, under the common yoga protocol and guidelines laid down by the AYUSH Ministry, will celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21.
The district’s diocesan and convent schools have been added to the programme schedule. The diocesan schools, however, have strongly resented being part of the celebrations. The south Goa ADEI has played it safe by ignoring them completely.
However, the education department will send individual letters to all schools to join the programme if needed. The government has also removed the Surya Namaskar from the celebrations.
The district collector’s programme is themed ‘Health through yoga’ and will be held in more than 12 schools and public health centres. The collector has also planned a seminar and demo of yoga for the collectorate’s groups C and D, as well as for special children and inmates of Sada sub-jail. An open-air demo will also be held at Colva beach.
The district collector called for a meeting regarding the same, which was attended by the National Health Mission state coordinator Shabana Redkar, chief medical officer, social welfare director and others.
