PANJIM: The residents of Dona Paula have decided to file an intervention application before the High Court of Bombay at Goa praying to allow vehicles to drop tourists up to the jetty and then to park the vehicles in the parking space instead of the Court asking the authorities to introduce electric mini buses for tourists visiting the jetty.
On October 20, the High Court had directed the State government to consider providing electric mini buses from Dona Paula Circle upto the jetty for convenience of tourists and senior citizens at reasonable cost and further directed the traffic police to regulate the movement of traffic.

However, the residents said that the earlier Court order directing the traffic police to a avoid traffic issues at Dona Paula was affecting them as the police are not allowing vehicles of the tourists as well as visitors to use the road from Dona Paula police outpost up to the jetty.
The residents said that the measures taken by the traffic police to avoid traffic congestion was unjustified and have urged the government to adopt alternative remedies. They said that the shop owners, hotel owners and St Anthony Water Sports at the Dona Paula jetty are facing huge financial losses due to these new changes.
According to these residents, the distance between the Dona Paula police outpost to the jetty was approximately one-km and it is a steep slope which is tiring for any person to walk in the scorching heat. They have also urged Taleigao MLA Jennifer Monserrate and SP (Traffic) to intervene in the matter and find a solution to their problems.
