DRAG to organise “We Care Film Fest”.

PANJIM: Disability Rights Association of Goa (DRAG) in association with Brotherhood, New Delhi, Kala Academy, BITS PIlani, International Centre Goa and VM Salgaocar College of Law will organise a three day “We Care Film Fest” from 23rd to 25th January.

The film fest will feature award winning films on disability issues. The purpose of the festival is to bring about attitudinal and behavioural changes in approaches to disability, promote the inclusion of people with disabilities, and rid people of misconceptions, myths and prejudices surrounding disability issues.

The films have been curated by “Brotherhood,” New Delhi (pioneer in organizing film festival on disability issues in India). This is their ninth “We Care Film Fest” on disability Issues. Earlier festival were held in association with its founder partners – the United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan (UNIC), UNESCO, National Trust and Asian Academy of Film and Television (AAFT) since 2003. 

The Brotherhood has a package of 400 award winning documentary films on disability issues from India and other countries.  The festival has traveled across India to 67 venues.  Some of the venues are TISS, SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai, Allahabad University, Punjab University, Rajasthan University, Amity University, Delhi University, Mumbai University, Tezpur University, Sikkim University etc. 

Around 60 documentary films which are from India and other countries, in various categories  and of 1, 5, 30 and 60 minutes duration will be screened during the festival in Goa.

The films will be screened for school and college students on 24th & 25th January at Kala Academy AC Auditorium, Panjim, 9 am to 1 pm, for general public; 23rd January 2012 at International Centre Goa, Dona Paula from 6 to 8 pm; 24th January at Azad Maidan, Panjim, from 6 to 8 pm and on 25th January at BITS Pilani Campus, Vasco from 5 to 7 pm.

The programme at the International Centre on 23rd January will also have an interactive session with Sandhya NS, film producer and director, Satish Kapoor, Director, We Care Film Festival and Avelino de Sa, President, Disability Rights Association of Goa

The Festival seeks to promote the rights of persons with disabilities as set out in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) which came into force on 3rd May 2008, as also the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995 (‘PWD Act’) and the National Trust Act, 1999. There are no entry fees for the festival.
