PANJIM: Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (GSCPCR) has written to Education Department requesting to create awareness among children against the Momo Challenge.
“The game is played by children on the mobile, which create threat to life. We as the responsible body like to request this authority to take appropriate measures to create awareness among school going children, so also we would request to take initiative to prevent the spread of the game,” the advisory issued by Commission Chairperson Sushma Mandrekar Chodankar states.
The advisory comes after the IT ministry and the National CPCR issued advisories asking parents and guardians to protect children from the game which lures players into a series of violent acts. The self harming increasingly risks the lives of a player as the game progresses and it finally ends with a suicide challenge. NCPCR had also urged the government to take preventive steps to stop the spread of the game in India.
The game has gone viral on social media platforms claiming a life of a Class X student in Jaipur last month while others in different parts of the country are ‘receiving invites’ to take up the challenge.
Herald was the first to report that Education Department has taken serious note of the game and is expected to issue instructions to schools and higher secondary’s warning the heads to be cautious about the challenge.
