NAGARGAO: After Ketamine Drug issue at Pissurlem Industrial Estate, the new building of Nagargao Panchayat is in focus for supplying and consuming drugs. Work on the new building is incomplete and it is lying vacant for past several years.
A group of local youth from Nagargao Panchayat area are reportedly supplying drugs and allegedly also consuming narcotics in the unused building since past many years.
A youth from Nagargao village was admitted to Valpoi Health Centre last week with an overdose of drugs. The youth was later shifted to the Goa Medical Hospital, Bambolim. He is now reportedly being detoxified at the GMC.
When contacted over the issue, the Valpoi Police Station said “there is no complaint regarding the use of drugs at the panchayat building.”
According to sources, there is, however, a complaint at Valpoi Police Station regarding the drug overdose on September 13 wherein it is said the Nagargao youth took drugs in frustration.
According to villagers a group of local youth are supplying and consuming drugs at the incomplete new Panchayat building.
“There are many vehicles parked in front of the building at night. Since there are no streetlights, we have informed the panchayat officials that some activity is being carried out at the premises, but till date no action has been taken,” said one villager, on the condition of anonymity.
“We have now heard that drugs are being supplied in the premises. We will now bring up the drugs issue in the coming gram sabha,” the villager added.
