Minister Babush Monserrate has said that he initiated steps to remove alleged encroachments by casinos soon after being elected, rejecting claims that he had remained inactive on the issue.
Speaking to the media, Monserrate stated that efforts were made to address the matter, but a molestation complaint was subsequently filed against him, which, he implied, affected the course of developments. He firmly denied allegations that no action was taken from his side.

The minister said that the issue of alleged encroachments and casino operations could be reconsidered during the casino licence renewal process scheduled for 2027. He maintained that this would provide an appropriate opportunity to review compliance and take necessary decisions.
Monserrate also noted that while certain groups are strongly opposed to casinos, the concerns of businesses operating around these establishments must also be taken into account. According to him, any policy decision should strike a balance between public sentiment and the economic interests linked to the sector.
The minister reiterated that the government remains open to reviewing the matter within the framework of existing laws and procedures.
