Engineer still a free bird

PANJIM: The Women’s Police Station is yet to register a sexual harassment case against an electrical officer as it lacks the report of the Vishaka Committee, which is inquiring into the alleged incident.

Tired of frequent harassment, the electricity department’s head clerk, on Monday, approached the Female Employees Grievance Cell of CEE, Women’s Exploitation Cell at Junta House, and the Women’s Police Station to lodge a complain about her higher-up.
She accused him of touching her inappropriately, demanding sexual favours, passing lewd remarks at her, and visiting her residence; all despite her warnings.
Although the department began an inquiry based on the Vishaka Committee’s guidelines against sexual harassment at workplaces, the police station is still to act on it. A police official said, “We are awaiting a report from the committee, based on which we will register the case.”
Nonetheless, we too are conducting a preliminary inquiry into the complaint.”
