English medium schools will get grants, reiterates Parsekar

PANJIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Wednesday said that a decision on the Medium of Instruction (MoI) will be taken only after the select committee report is presented.

He, however, said that the decision of the Goa government to give grants to English medium primary schools will not change.
“At any cost the grants to the English medium schools will not be stopped, the decision which was taken by the government,” Parsekar told the Assembly.
The MoI policy, which was incorporated into Goa School Education (Amendment) Bill 2014, was referred to the select committee after some members raised queries. The government is awaiting the report from the select committee.
“The decision will be taken only after select committee report to the government,” the chief minister said.
Parsekar said that communal harmony of the State should not be affected by this issue. “This government is not of only Hindus and it is not of only North Goa but it is of all Hindus, Christians and Muslims,” Parsekar said.
Parsekar suspects groupism in the matter and considering the importance of education he felt that it should not affect this sector.
