PANJIM: The Corporation City of Panaji (CCP) has issued eviction orders to 132 shops in the municipal market for unauthorized occupation and for not paying rent.
The order was recently issued by CCP Commissioner Dipak Desai under section 5 and other provisions of the Goa Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorized Occupants) Act, 1988 asking them to vacate the premises within 15 days of the receipt of the order.
The order stated that if they fail to follow the orders, CCP would take over the premises without further notice confiscating the articles in the premises. CCP has also issued another 152 notices under the Goa Public Premises Act to other market shopkeepers that have violated guidelines.
Desai said that the eviction order was issued following proper procedures of law under municipality acts. After examining records it was found that 132 shop occupants neither have an allotment order nor an agreement with CCP, nor have license fees or compensation to CCP been paid, the commissioner said.
The eviction order stated that tenancy claims by occupants is baseless as they have not able to substantiate the claim with documentary evidence.
The order also said that the transfer fee receipt produced by occupants that was issued in 2011 shows they are not the original occupants in the old market and for that reason the transfer cannot be considered.
