PANJIM: The Goa Children’s Court, Panjim has held former Pernem municipal council chairperson Vassudev Drehsprabhu guilty for abusing and assaulting a minor boy and causing serious injury to him. The sentence will be pronounced on September 25.
The incident had occurred on October 3, 2013 at Khorlim- Mapusa, when Deshprabhu noticed some of the boys playing on the fourth floor of a building and told them to leave the place as he was getting disturbed. Deshprabhu was also residing in the same building. But as the boys refused to go, he allegedly abused and assaulted one of the minor boys with a baseball bat and caused injury to him. The victim was later treated in the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Bambolim.
Following a complaint by the boy’s father, the Mapusa police registered a case against Deshprabhu under Sections 326, 504 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under the relevant Sections of the Goa Children’s Act. He was later chargesheeted by the police beforethe Goa Children’s Court.
The Goa Children’s Court held him guilty under section 326 and under the Goa Children’s Act and acquitted him from the Sections 504 and 506 of IPC.
Goa Children’s Court President Judge Sayonara Telles Lad will pronounce the sentence on Sept 25.
