VASCO: Joao Colaco, 79, was grievously injured in a hit-and-run accident at Vasco on Friday morning.
Colaco, a resident of Pixem-Dongri, Vasco was injured after the two-wheeler on which he was riding pillion was hit by a speeding car near the Mormugao municipal garden.
The driver of the car fled the spot after the accident without rendering any assistance to the victim.
After the collision, Colaco fell off the two-wheeler and sustained head injuries. Locals informed the Vasco police, who rushed to the spot and shifted him to a nearby private hospital.
The two-wheeler rider escaped with minor bruises. Eyewitnesses said that they were unable to jot down the vehicle number as its driver sped away through an internal road. Locals suspect that the vehicle belongs to a prominent doctor from the port town.
The Vasco police have registered the offence against an unknown person and head constable Ashish Naik is investigating the case.
