PONDA: The farmers on Monday warned to intensify their agitation on January 29 if the government and Goa Dairy Administration failed to roll back the hiked price of cattle feed or give them an equivalent hike in milk procurement rates.
Anup Desai, speaking on behalf of the Goa Dairy farmers, informed media that they want a special general body meeting to know why Goa Dairy is suffering loses.
Desai said that letters had been sent to the Office of Registrar of Co-operative Societies (RCS) and Goa Dairy in this regard.
It might be recalled that Goa Dairy had hiked cattle feed price by Rs 4 from January 16.
Despite protests, Goa Dairy rejected the farmers’ demand of lowering down the price, stating that cattle feed plant goes in losses and had accumulated a loss of Rs 4.5 crore.
Former Goa Dairy chairman Anup Priolkar said that they are struggling to carry their milk business and the hike on cattle feed is not affordable to them.
