VALPOI: Fed up with the delays on the part of the authorities to respond to their grievances, the youth of Ustem village in Valpoi, decided to take matters into their own hands and filled up the potholes on their main village road.
Incidentally, while there have been complaints about bad roads across the State, in Ustem, the road has been in a bad condition for the last two years.  There have been many accidents on this road and commuters have also suffered various injuries.  While two-wheelers have fallen down, the bike riders have been facing terrible back pain after negotiating the bad road on a daily basis.
While the villagers had informed their local Nagargao panchayat and panch members to repair the roads on priority, their pleas fell on deaf ears.
“It’s of no use waiting for the panchayat to repair the road. We are already facing health issues due to the bad road condition. So, we the village youth, decided to get together and fill up all the potholes on our village main road, “said a member of youth group.
However, the local panch member Ramu Kharwat stated that he has already submitted the file on the Ustem village road repairs to the PWD.
