Fire services hold mock rescue drill in Chaudi

CANACONA: As part of its fire safety week, the Canacona fire services undertook a mock rescue operation at the market area of Chaudi town.

At a brief function in the Canacona Municipal Hall in Chaudi, Canacona Fire Station in-charge Namdeo Parwar detailed various measures that citizens need to take to prevent a fire and to escape from a fire mishap.

Canacona Municipal Council Chairperson Ajay Bhagat and social worker Hemant Naik Gaonkar also spoke on the occasion.

Later, a firefighting team conducted a mock exercise to demonstrate how fire victims can be rescued from multi-storeyed buildings and the different measures to be taken in such emergencies. The firemen also display the technique of extinguishing fires.

The Fire Prevention Week, observed by the Directorate of Fire & Emergency Services, commenced on April 14 and ended on Saturday.

Mayem correspondent adds: The Bicholim Fire Services conducted various demonstrations on fire safety in Bicholim town on Friday.

The awareness drive was conducted under the guidance of Bicholim SFO Shripad Gawas to mark the Fire Safety Week. 

Firefighters displayed various techniques to the businessmen of Bicholim market area on ways to tackle a fire.

BMC Chairperson Anisha Vernekar, Deputy Chairperson Narayan Betkikar, Councillors Ajit Birje, Kamlesh Teli, Kamlakat Teli, Karuna Govekar, Shashikant Halarnkar and a large number of people were present on the occasion. 

“It is important that people are educated on ways to tackle a situation when a fire breaks out,” said SFO Gawas.
