MARGAO: Fisherman Pele and his crew rescued several Olive Ridley turtle hatchlings on Thursday morning at Benaulim beach. The fishermen discovered the hatchlings trapped in a fishing net during their early morning expedition.
The turtles were in immediate danger from predators, including hungry stray dogs and crows, when the fishermen intervened. After carefully untangling the hatchlings from the net, Pele and his team transported them to deeper waters and safely released them into the sea.
The fishermen emphasized the need for turtle protection in the area and also expressed concerns about marine pollution affecting their livelihoods and local fish populations.
