MARGAO: The flying squad on Friday afternoon inspected the site earmarked for the Muslim burial ground at Harealeam where land from the Navelim Village and Margao Town lying adjacent to each other is sought to be acquired.
The inspection was held on Friday following a complaint lodged by Xavier Fernandes from the area who pointed out that the land in question is low-lying agricultural land that is generally flooded during the monsoons every year.
Xavier complained that the land is eco sensitive and since it is low- lying, the bodies buried there will contaminate the ground water and pointed out that bodies must be disposed off at least at a distance of 100 mtrs from the river.
The flying squad did the inspection and too their measurements and said the report will be submitted later on.
