PONDA: Fun-week celebrations at a college in Farmagudi took a violent turn when one youth was seriously injured while three others escaped with minor injuries in group clashes at Farmagudi late Saturday evening.
According to reports, the incident began during fun-week celebrations in the college when a scuffle broke out between two youth, Sharmad and Umar, on Saturday morning.
While Sharmad is a student of the college, Umar was witnessing the event in the college campus.
Later in the evening, Sharmad’s cousin, Sagar Naik Borkar from Borim, along with his friends came to Farmagudi and confronted Umar about the incident in the morning. In the ensuing argument, clashes erupted and both groups hurled bottles at each other at about 7.45 pm opposite a temple at Farmagudi.
Ponda Police Inspector C L Patil informed that Sagar Naik Borkar allegedly assaulted Umar and Zaki Ismail Mulla, while Abhishek Naik, who was with Sagar, was seriously injured in the clashes and has been admitted at GMC Hospital. Sagar also escaped with minor injuries.
