GFP has expressed concerns with the ongoing developments in the State of Goa with regard to the measures adopted to combat the pandemic COVID-19.

The party chief Vijai Sardesai said that the government, as they have said all this time, appears to be in complete disarray with the ‘Right hand not knowing what the left Hand’ is doing with the result that there are either some atrocious decisions taken or no viable decisions taken altogether.

Vijai added that the decision to hold a house-to-house survey involving Teachers, BLOs, etc. is facing the flak from all quarters with serious concerns being expressed whether it will lead to prevention of community transmission or rather promotion of community transmission of the deadly virus.

“Secondly, serious questions are raised with regard to some recent deaths in GMC particularly the death of a 38- year-old man from South Goa who had returned from USA, which allude to attempts by the government at suppression of facts and misleading of the Goan public” alleged Vijai.

Vijai mentioned that they are still not clear whether and how prepared Goa is if, God forbid, India/Goa gets into the third phase of community transmission and there is a spike in cases leading to a strain on the critical health infrastructure of Goa. .

GFP added that they are in the process of urgently constituting a multidisciplinary COVID think tank made up of professionals from varied disciplines with the express mandate to examine in depth the evolving issues related with COVID-19 and suggest ways and means to address them keeping in mind the specific socio-politico-economic-cultural context of Goa.

The think tank will also keep a check on the PCR (Preventive, Containment and Remedial) measures adopted by the State and enlighten the public at large as regards its efficacy; and also study the best practices adopted globally to combat this pandemic COVID-19 and accordingly to reflect and suggest the relevant measures.
