PANJIM: Congress candidate for Panjim Girish Chodankar chased an eluding victory and managed to lead in just three of the 30 booths in Panjim constituency. Chodankar, who contested against Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, lost by 4803 votes.
Statistics released by the Returning Officer on Monday reveal that Chodankar led in just three polling booths while Parrikar led in the other 27 booths.
Chodankar received more votes at polling booth number 12 (Mary Immaculate Girls, High School) where he got 96 votes more than Parrikar. He secured 260 votes while Parrikar got 164. The polling booth falls in the Rua de Ourem area of Panjim.
Chodankar also succeeded in achieving a lead in Campal area at polling booth number 26 where he secured 267 votes while Parrikar received 236 votes, while at polling booth number 8 in central Panjim Chodankar secured 231 votes and Parrikar got 219 votes. All three polling booths fall in heart of the Panjim city.
However, Chodankar did not get even 50 per cent of the votes in 11 polling booths and his share was less than 25 per cent in one polling booth (Booth 21). Parrikar secured large margins in Altinho, St Inez, Mala and Ribandar.
Chodankar said the votes he got were achieved in just 15 days of campaigning.
