PANJIM: For the first time, suspected drug overdose death cases have been confirmed by Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) before the reports of the viscera analysis have been received.
Sources in Goa Police said that GMC confirmed in its medical reports that the deaths of two South Indian tourists, earlier this month in Anjuna, were due to drug overdose and the presence of MDMA was found in their blood samples.
A source told Herald that Anjuna Police are inquiring into the death cases of the two tourists. Anjuna Police are currently recording statements of the persons and friends of the deceased, who had accompanied the youth to the rave party, during the long weekend in mid August.
Anjuna Police Inspector Rahul Parab and Sub Divisional Police Officer Mahesh Gaonkar refused to divulge any details stating the investigation is under process and Police are looking into all the aspects in the death case as well as the availability of drugs at the parties.
Herald last week had reported on how party drugs like MDMA, LSD, Meow Meow, Devil’s Breath, etc, are manufactured in coastal villages in small laboratories with the help of a chemist who is basically a foreigner and who comes to Goa only to prepare the drugs.
Manufacturing party drugs is a new practice in the illicit narcotics industry in Goa which gives a slip to the law enforcing agencies in the State.
It is also evident after the arrest of UK National David Johnson that drugs are now locally made and even smuggled to the neighbouring states. Johnson has been visiting this State since 2007, while in 2016 he was found with drugs worth Rs 23 lakh.
During the interrogation, Johnson confessed that he smuggled crystallised form of LSD and that he processed it in Goa and made liquid LSD and sold it to locals and interstate peddlers.
