PANJIM: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) on Monday notified curtailment in the syllabus of Class IX to XII to the extent of 28 per cent to 30 per cent in the major subjects for the current academic year 2020-21.
In a draft circular issued to the heads of all secondary and higher secondary schools, the Board has said that the syllabus in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics for Class XII is curtailed in line with Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for the benefit of students answering competitive examinations at National level.

“The revised syllabus for the Academic Year 2020-21 is notified to avoid anxiety among the students, teachers, heads of institutions and parents,” the circular issued by Goa Board Secretary Bhagirath Shetye, mentioned.
The Academic Council of the Board had decided to curtail the syllabus by 28 per cent to 30 per cent to ensure that students are not burdened when the schools re-open for the Academic Year. The schools are shut in view of COVID pandemic.
The Board has said that the question paper in all practical subjects that is Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, Geology, Geography and Banking will be of 70 marks, that is two and half hour paper, instead of 55 marks for the March 2021 Class XII Board examination.
For Class IX and X, the syllabus are curtailed in all subjects except Prevocational Course Subjects, since the portion is limited. In case of Special School, all subject curtailment is notified.
For Class XI and XII, general stream, syllabus are curtailed in all major subjects, while for Vocational stream the curtailment is limited to only General Foundation, Computer Techniques, Agriculture and Horticulture course, Technical, Health care, Commerce based and Bakery.
While for Class XI and XII special children, the syllabus are curtailed in all subjects.
The Board has said that the final circular will be issued after attending suggestions from the stakeholders and with the concurrence of the government.
