The protest ws scheduled to commence with a mega meeting on the banks of River Sal at Tarivaddo, Assolna. Goa Forward had made all plans for the united protest against nationalization of all rivers of Goa with the alleged dubious objective of converting them into highways exclusively for shipping of coal.
Frank Viegas, executive member, Goa Forward, said that the support for the protests is overwhelming from the people of Velim constituency and it is to respect the sentiments of the people that the protest meet is being rescheduled. “We do not want to put our people into any problems,” he said.
Rony Cardoso, the chief coordinator of the protests in the Velim constituency criticized the government for the ban on fishing activity by locals and questioned how the Goan fishermen can be a threat to security.
