PANJIM: The opposition Congress party on Saturday alleged that non-submission of requisite certificates by the State government to the Centre has deprived the State of crores worth Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST) dues since 2017.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday informed the Rajya Sabha that Goa had not received its IGST dues as the State had not submitted ‘Account General’ authenticated certificates to the Union Ministry of Finance since 2017. If the AG certificates don’t reach us, we can’t release their share of funds, the Union Minister had said adding that the Goa government had not submitted AG certificates for the financial years 2017 to 2020 and from 2021-2022 and for the first quarters of the fiscal year 2022-2023.
Coming down heavily on the State government for this major goof up in the fiscal management, Aldona MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira demanded that the officers responsible for these bunglings should be pulled up and sent home. The State government should respond with clarity as to what is the financial bungling, which is going on and fix responsibility.
Adv Ferreira said that if the Goa government had provided AG’s certificates then it would have got crores of rupees as its share of funds and there would have been no need to hike taxes to mobilise revenues.
