PANJIM: The Goa Police has proposed exemption of the mandatory training for 12 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), who have been on probation since their promotion in the recent past. A letter by Under Secretary (Personnel-I) Vishal Kundaikar has been sent to the Secretary of Goa Public Service Commission (GPSC) proposing to exempt the officers to undergo Training and Departmental Examination.
DSPs Maria Monserrate, Anthony Monserrate, Uttam Raut Desai (passed away), Gurudas Gawade, Edwin Colaco, Nelson Albuquerque, Sucheta Dessai, Ezilda D’Souza, Sunita Sawant, Rajendra Desai, Dharmesh Angle, and Kiran Poduval have been named in the letter.

“I am directed to inform you that the Government has approved to grant relaxation to Rule 16 “Training and Departmental Examination” of Goa Police Service Rules, 1997…Power to relax, for an exemption to undergo Training and Pass Department Examination so as to lift the period of probation in respect of the below mentioned Junior Scale Officers of Goa Police Service (DySPs),” reads an extract of the letter.
Sources said to Herald that the syllabus for the probation officers of Goa Police was finalized last month after a gap of quite a few years during which officers were promoted without undergoing training and examination at Goa Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development, at Old Goa. While the training and examination has now resumed, the department is seeking relaxation.
Herald had recently reported that Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant-led cabinet has recently approved nine posts of SPs, on a promotion basis as the government has allowed relaxation in the Recruitment Rule following which nine DySPs will be promoted to SP rank. Earlier, the qualifying service was eight years but with this relaxation, deserving officers will get an advantage.
