PANJIM: In view of extensive field work being carried out by the police force amidst lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic, the department has re-circulated safety precautions to the frontline personnel and officers.
Besides the law and order, the force is also ensuring enforcement of lockdown orders, social distancing as well as tracing ‘contacts’ and checking on whether home quarantined persons are following the orders strictly.
“In consultation with Dean, Goa Medical College and Director of Health Services; Police Headquarters has once again circulated safety precautions to law enforcement officers who interface with large number of people at border check posts and at internal check points to enforce lockdown. Notably Goa Police personnel are assisting the Health Department officials in tracing the contacts and also in enforcing the home quarantine,” Superintendent of Police (headquarters) Shekhar Prabhudessai said in a note circulated to all concerned officers.
The department has already distributed masks and hand sanitisers/hand rubs to its staff as a precautionary measure while carrying out the field duty. Corporates and NGOs have also come forward to help police personnel in the field while senior officers including Inspector General of Police Jaspal Singh are also visiting the areas to boost the morale of the force.
“Though for law enforcement personnel performing daily routine duties, the immediate health risk is considered low, nevertheless safety instructions have been circulated and protective gear distributed to them,” the SP said.
