VASCO: Stating that Goa government is fully armed with the coastal security, Coast Guard DIG Manoj Baadkar on Wednesday said Goa is the only state in the country which has taken positive steps towards coastal security.
While displaying the sophisticated gadgets of the Coast Guard at harbour, Baadkar said the Coast Guard in its first phase has placed radars along the coastal line of the country at a distance of 60 miles to keep a strict watch on movement of ships and other small boats.
“In Goa, radar with camera is placed at the light house at Fort Aguada, which monitors the movement of ships and other small boats and can interact with the captain of the ship,” said Baadkar.
“This camera can pick up the movement of the ships within radius of 40-45 nautical miles and if we find any suspicious movement, then we contact the ship captain through our ship monitoring system and if not satisfied with the information provided by the captain, then we dispatch a helicopter to have a closer view of the ship and its movement.”
“Further still, if we are not satisfied then we send the Coast Guard speed boat and manually verify the details provided by the captain of the ship,” said DIG Baadkar.
“Goa government is fully armed with the coastal security and is the only state in the country which has taken positive steps towards coastal security. The State is in the process to recruit people to man jetties and maintain registers of crew members employed at the fishing trawlers,” he added.
