MARCEL, SEPT 6
Gold ornaments worth over Rs 40,000 were reported stolen from Shree Vithoba Temple, Bazarwada-Tiverem-Orgao, Marcel, on Monday morning.
According to reports, the theft occurred between 7 am and 8 am. The incident came to light when temple Pujari Jaganath Bhat went to the temple to perform routine Pooja at about 7 pm.
“I had closed the Garbhakud door today morning at 8 am after performing Pooja. I returned at 7 pm to perform evening Pooja, but before I could insert the key, the lock was detached from its holder,” said Bhat.
“The burglars had used wax to keep it intact. I immediately alerted the people and then we informed Ponda Police about the incident,” added Bhat.
Panch member from Bazarwada Ashok Govekar said it is strange as the temple is located on the main road.
“The road is frequented by people. It is surprising as the burglars looted the temple in broad daylight and nobody could notice. I suspect hand of migrant labourers who are engaged in construction of a compound wall barely few metres away from the temple. Police should act swiftly and nab the culprits,” claimed Govekar.
