“Gone Against Whip”: Bhagwant Mann Targets Raghav Chadha After Rajya Sabha Removal

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday launched a sharp attack on AAP MP Raghav Chadha, alleging that he appears “compromised” and has gone against the party’s official line in Parliament.

Responding to questions at a press conference, Mann said Chadha’s actions reflect a clear deviation from party discipline. He pointed out that opposition parties often take collective decisions—such as staging walkouts or raising specific issues—and failing to adhere to these decisions amounts to violating the party whip.

Mann criticised Chadha for not speaking up on key issues, including alleged voter list deletions in West Bengal and the arrest of AAP workers in Gujarat. “If someone avoids raising such matters and instead focuses on trivial topics, it raises doubts about where they are speaking from,” Mann said, taking a dig at Chadha’s recent remarks.

The comments come a day after Chadha stated he had been “silenced, not defeated,” following his removal as AAP’s deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha. The party, however, hit back, accusing him of avoiding strong positions against the Centre and indulging in what it described as “soft PR.”

AAP’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal has also raised concerns over the arrest of party workers in Gujarat, with Mann confirming that the leadership plans to take up the issue with the state government.

Defending the leadership reshuffle, Mann said such decisions are routine within political parties and based on organisational needs. He warned that any deviation from the party line would invite disciplinary action, signalling that the rift within AAP may continue to deepen in the coming days.
