The government wants the River Princess to go from the Candollim beach in the interest of the people and tourism, Chief Minister Diagambar Kamat said in the House.
Kamat was replying to the allegations leveled by the Opposition leader Manohar Parrikar that there was a fraud in the contract being awarded to the Singapore based company Titan Salvage.
Pointing to the deteriorating condition of the Candolim beach, he said, the situation is become such that the beach is getting wiped out.
Referring to the advertisements released by Salgaocar Mining Company that there was fraud in the tender of River princess, he stated, “I am not bothered of such advertisements and there is no fraud in the tender.”
“Unless we take proper consultation from lawyers we will not take decision on the award of contract,” he said.
“However, we want the ship to go in the interest of the people of Candolim and the tourists,” he stated.
Earlier, Parrikar alleged gross irregularities in the tender process for the removal of the ship.
“There is fraud in the tender process, floated by the state disaster management committee,” he said.
Out of the two companies finalized, he said, one company director Anil Madgaivkar is the member of the state disaster management committee and the other Titan Salvage has not submitted its financial bid in time.
“Titan Salvage has submitted its bid only after taking a look at the Madgavkar companies bid of Rs 125 crore, which is wrong,” he stated.
