Says Pramod Muthalik’s ideology is not wrong, but modus operandi is objectionable
PANJIM: The Bharatiya Janata Party, Goa Unit, Friday, ruled out its government banning the entry of Sri Ram Sene in the State, saying it is in agreement with its ideology, but disagreed with its methods.
“The ideology of SRS chief Pramod Muthalik is not wrong, but his modus operandi is highly condemnable,” the BJP declared at a press conference Friday, adding “We are not going to ban Sri Ram Sene from entering the State. We can’t ban it unless, the organization is found to be involved in activities which go against the law.”
BJP’s spokesman Wilfred Mesquita told reporters Friday afternoon that under Section 91 (B) of the Indian Constitution, government cannot ban an Indian from going around the country. “What is important that we should ban their activities if they are involved in illegalities. What is point in banning the organization?” Mesquita asked, reacting to speculations that the State government was contemplating on stopping Sene’s plans to start its work in Goa from September 2014.
However, the BJP senior leader argued that the Government and Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar knew how to tackle such people, whose activities can lead to law and order situation in the State.
“Remember that it was our Chief Minister who blocked his (Muthalik) entry into BJP, so our Chief Minister knows how to tackle such entities,” he added.
Muthalik, during his two-day visit to Goa, had announced on Wednesday, the launch of his outfit in Goa would happen some time later and said that it would fight pub culture, and drugs.
Mesquita said that BJP totally agrees with the ideology of Muthalik. “No individual, no society or no religion will accept drugs, alcohol, and prostitution. Whatever he (Muthalik) says is universal truth. But the problem is in his modus operandi. His ideology is not wrong but his modus operandi is highly condemnable,” he said.
The BJP spokesman said that the party will not oppose Muthalik if he does not indulge in moral policing. The BJP leader refused to comment on Muthalik’s view point against pub culture.
“It all depends on what is happening inside the pub. I have never been to a pub,” Mesquita said.
While Congress party has filed a petition in the local court for directions to police, to register an FIR against Muthalik for his hate speech in Goa, BJP own MLAs Michael Lobo and Vishnu Wagh have raised objection to Muthalik’s entry into Goa.
