Govt, Cong had no role: Digambar

Chief Minister Digambar Kamat has reiterated that neither the Goa Government nor the Congress high command had any role to play in the presence of dissident Karnataka MLAs at Taj Exotica, Benaulim.
During an interaction with newsmen in the city here on Sunday, Kamat said the role of the Government was limited to only giving protection to the MLAs holed up in the starred resort. “The MLAs had asked for police protection. It is our responsibility to provide police protection to any elected representative coming into the State”, he said.
“The Congress Government received no instructions from the party high command to act in a certain way. The MLAs made a written letter that they require police protection and the Government acceded to their request”, he said, adding that he was not present in the State when the Karnataka MLAs
arrived in Goa.
When his attention was drawn to the fact that the security at the airport was thrown to the winds to help the MLAs, Kamat said he had no idea and added that it is for the authorities to act in the matter.
BJP leaders from Karnataka and Goa had accused the Goa Government for helping the dissident MLAs with police protection during their three-day stay at the resort. In fact, the presence of Home Minister, Ravi Naik, PWD Minister Churchill Alemao and Power Minister Alexio Sequeira, besides GPCC General Secretary Vijay Sardessai at Taj Exotica on the day when the dissidents arrived in Goa had raised many an eyebrow in political circles.
