Govt Employees Association is unregistered

The Goa Government Employees Association that has been fighting for the rights of government employees has been ruled as an unregistered society by the Registration Department based at Shramshakti Bhavan at Patto, here.
A notice signed by Inspector General of Societies/District Registrar North V G Salkar states the validity of the registration certificate of GGEA has expired on June 10, 1999 after which it was never renewed. Therefore the association as on today is an unregistered society, he observed.
The fact came to light after the General Secretary of GGEA Ganesh Chodankar filed an application before the Chief Secretary on April 10, 2010 complaining that the President Mangaldas Shetkar was not acting as per the bye-laws while conducting elections to form the new committee of the association on May 2, 2010.
The IGS after going through the complaint of Chodankar found that validity of GGEA’s (No 50/GOA/87) registration had expired on June 10, 1999. He further held that it had been noticed that GGEA had neither filed income and expenditure statements from 1999 till date nor filed any returns. Shetkar was asked to give an explanation within 10 days of the receipt of the notice to him.
Chodankar maintained the May 2 polls were illegal because Shetkar had scrutinised the nomination received when as per bye-laws it was the General Secretary’s job. Further, on the day of the scrutiny the President didn’t produce the nominations before the GS, he observed.
