PANJIM: The government has no face to close down gambling like matka in the State, Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco said on the floor of the House on Wednesday.
““This government has no face to take action against matka and bull fights,” Lourenco said
while alleging, that the BJP government is promoting casinos in the State.
Participating in a discussion on the Governor’s address, Lourenco said the government has failed to handle the casino issue in the State and alleged that the government is very soft on this issue.
He questioned why the government is interested in the casino industry in the State.
“We have warned government not to allow this sixth casino vessel in the River Mandovi, but…” Lourenco said while hinting at the recent incident of casino vessel Lucky 7 being grounded off Miramar beach in Panjim.
He said that most visitors to casinos in the State are Goans and not non Goans.
Lourenco also asked the government to take action against drugs, which are available freely in the State. He said that drugs are now easily available in the villages and even in the schools. He appealed that even opposition will join hands to curb drug menace in Goa.

Chief Minister requests MLAs to provide information on drug trade
PORVORIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, speaking in Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, appealed to the MLAs to provide specific information about the drug trade in the State following serious apprehension raised by the various opposition leaders. “I will assure you that the name of the informant would be kept secret, please get it to my notice, I will take action” he said. He further said that recently he had received a letter based on which Anti Narcotic Cell (ANC) of Goa Police conducted raid, drugs were confiscated and case was also booked.
Parrikar said he was also worried while seeing answers (low figures) furnished by the Goa Police on drugs. “I asked them whether drugs have come down or police are not concentrating on drugs”, he added. He further said that the ways of consumption of drugs have changed and reason why it is become difficult to detect it. Parrikar said that people are now consuming chemical drugs in the form of tablets which is not easy to detect. “I have asked police to work out mechanism to ensure (detection)”, he said. Parrikar said that the government will not tolerate drugs, crimes against women and child and indiscipline in traffic.
