PANJIM: The State government expects the Mopa issue to be sorted in the Supreme Court (SC) by July 15 and thereafter, the work would begin soon.
Director of Civil Aviation Suresh Shanbhogue told Herald that the hearing is scheduled in the apex court on July 1 and that things could be finalised soon.
“The petitioners had time to file a reply to the expert committee recommendations and that will be heard on July 1,” he said.
Meanwhile, the officer said that the GMR has also completed the pre-monsoon works as stipulated by the Supreme Court and a compliance report has been submitted.
The Supreme Court vide its judgment dated March 29 2019, in the matter of Federation of Rainbow Warriors Vs Union of India & Ors had, inter alia, directed that Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) shall revisit the recommendations made by it for the grant of an EC for the Mopa airport project, including the conditions which it has formulated, having regard to the specific concerns which have been highlighted in the judgment.
The SC had said that the EAC shall carry out the exercise within a period of one month of the receipt of the certified copy of the order.
The court had also said that until the EAC carries out the fresh exercise as directed above, the EC granted by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) on October 28, 2015 shall remain suspended.
