The State government has issued identity cards to salt pan farmers and extended financial assistance of ₹50,000 to support and safeguard traditional salt pans, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Thursday.
The Chief Minister stated that the initiative is aimed at protecting the age-old salt pan farming sector and ensuring financial security for those dependent on it. He added that the government recognises the cultural and economic importance of traditional salt pans and is committed to their preservation.

Sawant further announced that a dedicated government scheme exclusively for the traditional salt pan sector will be rolled out in the near future. The proposed scheme will focus on long-term protection, sustainability and livelihood support for salt pan farmers.
The measures, he said, reflect the government’s efforts to revive and strengthen traditional occupations while preventing the degradation and encroachment of salt pan lands.
