Govt Jobs in Goa Based on Merit, Not Medium of Education: CM Pramod Sawant

Pramod Sawant told the Goa Legislative Assembly that recruitment to government posts in the state is strictly based on merit and not on the medium of education.

Replying to the debate on the 2026–27 State Budget in the Assembly, Sawant said that a majority of candidates selected for government jobs had studied in Marathi medium schools, highlighting their strong performance in competitive recruitment processes.

The Chief Minister stated that out of around 2,500 candidates selected through the Goa Staff Selection Commission, nearly 2,000 were from Marathi medium schools.

He said the figures demonstrate that students from the Marathi language stream are performing well and succeeding in competitive examinations. Sawant urged parents not to hesitate in choosing Marathi as the medium of instruction at the primary level, emphasising that government recruitment processes assess candidates purely on merit.

Addressing concerns related to unemployment in the state, the Chief Minister said that between 6,000 and 7,000 jobs have been created in recent years. He added that these include opportunities generated in the private sector through campus recruitment initiatives.

Sawant reiterated that the government is focusing on creating more employment opportunities while ensuring transparency and merit-based selection in recruitment to public posts.
